Good questions before the dumpster arrives.
Here are the basics about rental time and placement, plus links to the government offices that set local rules.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Savage's standard rental includes 10 days, with delivery and pickup included. If your project may take longer, call us before the rental ends. We can discuss whether an extension is available and what it would cost.
Local rules about how long a dumpster may stay on a property can be separate from your rental agreement. Check with your city, county, or HOA if you have a placement or time-limit question.
Can I put a dumpster on my driveway?
Often, yes—but the answer depends on your address, the space available, and any city or HOA rules. Tell us where you'd like the dumpster placed so we can discuss access and delivery. Check your local rules before scheduling if you're unsure.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on where the dumpster will sit and which government controls that location. A street, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way may need approval before delivery. In Montgomery County, the county says its dumpster permit is required in the county public right-of-way, but not for placement on private property. The county also says city and HOA rules may still apply. Read Montgomery County's dumpster permit guidance ↗
Other counties and cities have their own rules. For example, the City of Frederick has separate guidance for dumpsters in its right-of-way. Use the official links below to check the rules for your exact address before arranging street placement.
Who should check the local rules?
Before delivery, check with the county or city that controls the proposed location, and with your HOA if you have one. We're happy to talk through placement with you, but the government office or HOA is the source for its own requirements and permissions.
Check the rules where you live.
These links go directly to county and city government websites. They are not Savage's rules, and requirements can change. If your address is inside city limits, check the city as well as the county.
